| Spring Training is in the Air |
Vol. 3, Issue 1, Feb 09 |
| Thanks to all who participated in our training survey. We heard you loud and clear, so . . . you asked for it, you got it! We’ve started our Boarding School and Day School Programs. Your dog can stay with us for two weeks and learn the basics. This program coordinates perfectly with a planned vacation or that remodeling project you have coming up. If your dog comes to daycare, take advantage of our Day School Program. Drop your dog off in the morning and one of our trainers will work with her during the day. Whatever option works best for you, we can help you get 2009 off on the right foot. Check out our website for details. |

BYO...Food to the Ranch

Daycare Dilemma Over! |
|
In an effort to avoid upset tummies and any unnecessary stress during your pet’s stay with us, we have taken the advice of great local vets and have changed our food policy. Because changes in diet can cause gastrointestinal upset in even the heartiest of dogs, we now require owners to bring food from home. Our goal is for every dog to have the best possible time while vacationing at the Ranch. All that swimming, running, socializing, and fresh air just isn’t as much fun with an upset tummy. So please remember to bring your dog’s food when she comes to stay with us. She will thank you for it. Give us a call if you have any questions.

Our daycare program is full, so what’s a dog to do? Well, due to popular demand we have expanded our facilities and opened two more days of daycare. Let us know if you have an extra day you’d like to add or if you know someone with a dog that might enjoy daycare at the Ranch. We will happily reward you with a $50 HDR gift certificate for every dog referred and admitted to our daycare program. Call now to reserve Spot’s spot.

We Love Your Dog Too, So Did You Know . . .? |
 |
Cocoa Mulch, which is sold by Home Depot, Target, and most garden supply stores contains an ingredient called Theobromine. Theobromine is LETHAL to dogs and cats! Even worse, Theobromine smells like chocolate so it really attracts dogs. Please talk to your landscaper and make sure that this product isn’t used in your yards. And while you’re at it, be sure not to use Sago Palms in your yards. They are poisonous too.
Xylitol, a sugar substitute found in a variety of sugar-free and dietetic cookies, mints and chewing gum is proving highly toxic, to dogs. Even a small amount of this substance can be fatal. So please take care if you use products with this ingredient and seek immediate veterinary treatment if you suspect your do has ingested Xylitol.

| Help a Dog . . . Get Involved! |
|
 |
| Need a New Years Resolution? Give back by helping some dogs in need. Houston Dog Ranch is teaming up with some local animal rescue groups in 2009. We’re doing our part to help some very deserving dogs until they find forever homes. Our temporary guests will get lots of love, play, and training during their stay at the ranch. Want to help? You can make a donation to these organizations at the Ranch or, better yet, get involved. These great organizations need volunteers. It doesn’t cost anything but time.
Feeling really ambitious? Become a foster. Make a real difference in the life of dog by giving her a great start to a new life while she waits for her forever home. Visit the links page on our website to find out more about the rescue groups we’re working with and the dogs up for adoption.
